The acclaimed string quintet Sybarite5 is joined by master shakuhachi player and composer James Nyoraku Schlefer. The program features the world premieres of The Voice of Water for String Quintet by Victoria Bond, and a sextet by Schlefer, both written especially for Sybarite5. Also on the program, Pulitzer Prize winning composer Paul Moravec’s virtuosic and chromatic Shakuhachi Quintet. Cygnus Ensemble performs a program of premieres with its all-star ensemble. The world premiere by David Del Tredici features his son, the trombonist Felix Del Tredici. The acclaimed soprano Tony Arnold performs “My Mother in Love” by Anna Weesner, the winner of the 2018 Virgil Thomson Award in Vocal Music. Vox n Plux – soprano Elizabeth Farnum, with guitarists William Anderson and Oren Fader – performs the premiere of Richard Festinger’s “Joyce Settings”; and the Cygnus Ensemble premieres Morris Rosenzweig’s “Drang Nicht”. Watch their performance by clicking the video below.
